The duties of an executor are very time-consuming, and it is important that you discuss the responsibilities with the person you wish to ask to serve as your executor.

For example, your executor will need to continue to maintain your property and pay your bills until the property is sold or disbursed to the heir.  The executor will also need to have valuables inventoried and appraised.
