The belief in ghosts is common throughout the world in most cultures.
During the Victorian period, however ghosts became a crazy obsession among many, and séances were conducted in an attempt to contact ghosts.
Ouija boards were wobbled and spirit writing was believed to occur, when the ghost made contact through a live person. The Victorian spirit craze initially began with the Fox sisters, from New York,
who claimed that they were communicating with ghosts by "rappings".
Later one of the sisters, Margret revealed the whole thing was a hoax.
